Daily Summary 8 Jan 20

The market started with fear with Dow's future -400 points despite Dow's small fall of 120 points last night.  European bourses closed mixed. Market was spooked by Iran's retaliatory attacks on US bases in Iraq. This was further aggravated by the crash of a Ukrainian Boeing 737 on taking off in Iran.

European bourses opened down.

Asian bourses were all down but off their lows.  Nikkei -371, ShanghaiC -18, Hangseng -234.  STI closed -5 at 3242.  Volume was 2b shares.  Gainers were 184 to 304 losers.

Trend of STI is sideways.

Top volumes were Ausgroup +0.2, MarcoPoloMarine +0.1, MoyaAsia +0.7, RexIntl -0.5, YZJ -3, NamCheong +0.1, Genting -0.5, Spackman -0.1, GoldenAgri unchanged, ThomsonMed -0.1.

STI opened -37 points  and fell further to a day low in half an hour at 3193. It then went on a slow climb and was at 3221 when closed for lunch.  After lunch it moved up all the way to close at 3242, near to day high at 3244.

Blue chips were mixed and the general market was weaker.

European bourses and Dow's future are down at this moment.
